It was at the very end of 2020 that Pierre Lignier, founder and artistic manager, exclusively opened the doors to me to discover this unique place in France (and in the world?).
After crossing the snows of the Morvan, I find myself in front of the gates of La Karrière, an old abandoned Comblanchien stone quarry which has come back to life in another form thanks to the Vill’Art association.
An association that promotes contemporary art and its diffusion around the specific terroir of the Hautes Côtes by the social, cultural and economic association Arts, wine art and culinary art, together with the actors of regional life, putting value traditions and contemporary creations.
La Karrière is a performance area in the general sense of the term.
You will be able to discover concerts, of all kinds of music, one that marked me is the concert of the Dijon-Bourgogne orchestra with the singer Menelik, an unlikely meeting!
Musicals, dance shows, circuses, plays ...
You will also see exhibitions, workshops, for young and old, a real place to discover all kinds of art. The concerts can accommodate up to 2500/3000 people.
Each week different festivities take place.
What will interest us today is the street art festival that has taken place every summer since 2016.
The artists paint directly on the rock on facades more than 10m high!
We are going to discover several, coming from all over the world like the frenchies Hopare, or Vinie.
As you know, 2020 was not a year like the others, especially for the culture and entertainment sector.
At the end of September, 2 new artists were to come and create new murals.
Mode 2, an artist of Mauritian origin, a major figure in hip-hop culture, is from the first generation of European graffiti in the 1980s.
Eron, a contemporary artist from Rome who has developed a unique and original style that is particularly surprising often on social themes.
Hope they can come this year!
